The Deep Hours is a small, independent publisher of original dark horror fiction — short stories written for the late end of the night, when the house is quiet and every creak sounds deliberate.
What we publish
New horror every week, across three main threads:
- Horror Fiction — atmospheric, character-driven short stories. Psychological, cosmic, gothic, folk. Slow burns that earn their dread.
- Scary Stories — shorter, sharper pieces built for a single sitting. Campfire energy, with teeth.
- True Crime — fictionalized narratives about the quieter kinds of evil: long cons, grooming, domestic terror, crimes that don’t make the news.
Every story is original and written specifically for The Deep Hours. We don’t republish creepypasta or scrape other sites.
Why the audio
Most of our stories come with audio narration, so you can listen while you walk, drive, or fall asleep. The narration is produced with AI voice synthesis (currently a voice we call Megan, via ElevenLabs), then reviewed and mastered before publication. We think transparency about AI narration matters — we use it because a solo writer can’t afford professional voice talent for weekly releases, and because the tech has gotten good enough to serve the story rather than break it.
Every story is human-written. The audio is AI-narrated.
Who’s behind it
The Deep Hours is run by a single writer working out of the Pacific Northwest. No investors, no network, no sponsors, no ads. Just someone who loves the genre and wanted a clean place to publish stories about the dark.
If the site is still up, the stories are still being written.
What we don’t do
- No ads, no popups, no paywalls
- No tracking scripts, no analytics pixels, no data brokers
- No AI-generated writing (only AI-generated audio narration, which is always labeled)
- No recycled or rewritten content from other sites
The newsletter form is the only place we ask for anything, and all we ask for is your email if you want new stories delivered. See our Privacy Policy for exactly what happens to your email address.
